MANIBUS ET PEDIBUS - with hands and feet (solo)
a triptychCora Schmeiser - voice, sound bowls and hurdy-gurdy
This vocal ode to our limbs is a walk that takes us through images, thoughts and songs, pausing and running away, acting and contemplating, but also persevering and holding on. It can be about the contemplation of concrete actions and communication or about abstract fantasies that turn ordinary thinking on its head - or about the question of who guides us, protects us or threatens us and what we leave behind. With the help of songs and chants from the Middle Ages and texts and solo compositions from the present, the singer Cora Schmeiser explores the phenomenon of our extremities and their metaphorical meaning. The panorama opens up in three parts: ‘Are we handmade?’ describes the creation of man, the origin of his life as well as his voice and his position in the world. ‘What do we do?’ looks not only at the function of our hands, but also at the ability to give and receive, to think in detail and to communicate, to direct and invent. Finally, it is our feet that carry our weight and and enable us to move around. ‘Where are we going?’ points out paths along which people see themselves reflected or discover detours. Are they carried on hands and thus feel safe? What footprints do they leave behind in this world?
